Since the tournament moved to TPC San Antonio's Oaks Course in 2010, five of the last eight third-round leaders/co-leaders of the Valero Texas Open (including Chappell) have held on for the win.

It would have been easy for Chappell to succumb to the course and conditions, especially after he had three bogeys and a double bogey on the front nine and turned with a 38.

Wiesberger, who started the third round at Genzon Golf Club with a four-shot advantage, offset two bogeys with five birdies for 15-under 201 overall.

On the back nine, Chappell fought the windy conditions and birdied three of the last five holes, to card 71 and take the sole lead at eight-under. He is joined at six-under by second round co-leaders Bud Cauley (74) and Tony Finau (74), Sweden's Carl Pettersson (71), 2013 Texas Open champion Martin Laird (71), Kevin Tway (72) and Australian Cameron Smith (73).

Huh's finish was especially impressive with an eagle on No. 17 and a birdie on the 18th to put himself in contention ahead of Sunday's final round. I love the golf course, love what it provides.

"You appreciate it every time you win because it's so hard", Koepka said of Chappell's win. I was able to find something I could compete with. Even though he lipped out the 11-foot eagle, his tap-in birdie gave him two strokes over Koepka. "I stayed patient and made a lot of putts".

Seamus Power and Graeme McDowell are both two over par after disapppointing rounds of 74 and 76 respectively.

"I didn't start off really well", Wiesberger said.

After sleeping on a one-shot lead overnight, Chappell got off to the ideal start as he birdied the long second and added another at the next from 10 feet, although he then three-putted the fifth green from 25 feet. He sank a 56-foot putt to birdie earlier at No. 6, so he 2-putted for the birdie at 17 and ran in another birdie at 18.

Wiesberger's 71 featured par saves on the 12th and 17th and almost hit the pin with his approach to the last hole but was forced to settle for a par and a trip back up the 18th.

Camilo Villegas emerged as a strong contender when he birdied five of the first six holes, but the Colombian stumbled after the turn and dropped three shots in two holes before completing a disappointing 70 which left him six off the lead.
