CBS is looking to keep its status as television's most-watched network with a 2017-18 fall slate that will launch six new programs, including a spinoff of its biggest comedy hit, "The Big Bang Theory".

"The Big Bang Theory" and its spin-off, "Young Sheldon", are being paired together on CBS' 2017-2018 primetime schedule. Iain Armitage will star as a 9-year-old Sheldon Cooper (the older version is Jim Parsons), a math and science genius growing up in Texas "where church and football are king".

"Young Sheldon" will have a special one-time Monday preview premiere on September 25 at 8:30 PM ET/PT, after the season premiere of "The Big Bang Theory" at 8 PM ET/PT.

Monday (through October 23): 8, The Big Bang Theory; 8:30, 9JKL; 9, Kevin Can Wait; 9:30: Me, Myself and I; 10, Scorpion.

Two new series also set to premiere later in the 2017-2018 season are: BY THE BOOK, a comedy about a modern day man who decides to live his life strictly by the Bible, and INSTINCT, a drama starring Alan Cumming as a gifted author, university professor and former Central Intelligence Agency operative who is lured back to his old life by the NYPD when they need his help to stop a serial killer.

Moonves was asked about CBS' interest in American Idol before it ended up at ABC. CBS even gave a first look at the show at its Upfront presentation on Wednesday (May 17).
