Fresh Kid Ice, one of the founding members of the ultra-controversial and pioneering rap group 2 Live Crew, and one of the first internationally-known Asian rappers, has reportedly died in Miami.

He formed the legendary hip-hop crew with DJ Mr. Mixx and Amazing Vee in 1984.

According to the group's manager (via TMZ), Fresh Kid Ice passed away just before 8 a.m. early Thursday morning (Jul. 13) at a Miami hospital due to an undisclosed medical condition. Later, they hooked up with Luther Campbell when the trio signed with his record label. In 1990, Fresh and Luke were arrested after cops deemed one of their live performances lewd and inappropriate.

2 Live Crew rose to prominence in the late Eighties with a rumbling Miami bass sound packed with samples and hyper-sexualized lyrics that helped them sell millions of records and earn the ire of politicians and family advocacy groups.
