Israel to reopen sensitive Jerusalem holy site

Israel reopened Jerusalem's Noble Sanctuary-Temple Mount compound on Sunday, drawing a protest by Muslim religious authorities over the installation of metal detectors at entrances two days after a deadly shooting.

In response, Israeli authorities closed down the compound and banned Muslims from conducting Friday prayers at the holy site for the first time since 2000.

At least 50 Muslim Arab rioters and one Israeli police officer were reportedly wounded.

"I decided that as of tomorrow, in the framework of our policy of maintaining the status-quo, we will gradually open the Temple Mount, but with increased security measures".

The soldiers invaded homes in Jerusalem's Old City, interrogated many Palestinians, and abducted three young men, identified as Jihad Nasser Qous, Abdullah Da'na, and Fadi al-Metwer. Police reopened the site on Sunday, but placed metal detectors in front of its gates, which it says are meant for security.
