USS Gerald R. Ford to be commissioned Saturday

US president Donald Trump has declared that the most advanced aircraft carrier to join the US Navy, the USS Gerald R Ford, will cause America's enemies to "shake with fear" whenever they see it.

Trump, the commander in chief of the US military, was on hand at Naval Station Norfolk in Virginia to preside over the commissioning ceremony. "Everyone will know that America is coming, and America is coming strong". The president earlier in the week said in an interview that he regretted appointing Attorney General Jeff Sessions, and warned the special counsel leading a probe into Russia's campaign meddling not to investigate unrelated dealings by his family business. He specifically called on Congress to pass a proposed budget, which he said will offer greater and more stable funding for the armed forces.

He criticized what he called a lack of investment in new military technology and "a shortfall in military readiness" under the previous administration.

The new ship is considered the most technologically superior aircraft carrier ever created, and the first new carrier design since the USS Nimitz was put into service approximately 40 years ago.

He said he hoped that spirit would also mark the monsoon session that began today and that all parliamentarians would engage in quality debate.

The Navy says it will undergo testing and is expected to be ready for deployment by 2021.

But the new carrier, Trump said, will be key in any fight that may become necessary.

The vessel completed sea trials in April but still will go through a battery of tests and workups at sea before becoming operational and ready for deployment, work that is expected to cost almost $780 million and take more than four years to complete, congressional auditors said in a report this month.

After the ship's sponsor and President Ford's daughter Susan Ford Bales gave the traditional command to "Man our ship and bring her to life", Ford Sailors ran up the brows and manned the rails as the band played "Anchor's Aweigh".

Israel to reopen sensitive Jerusalem holy site
Forty Israelis, two USA tourists and a British student have been killed in Palestinian stabbings, shootings and car-rammings. Police reopened the site on Sunday, but placed metal detectors in front of its gates, which it says are meant for security.

Mr Trump said at the event in Norfolk, Virginia: "I hereby place United States Ship Gerald R Ford in commission".

Several dignitaries will also be in attendance, including Chief of Naval Operations Adm. John Richardson, Defense Secretary Jim Mattis, and Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe. "God bless this ship and all who serve it", said trump. "This is just a dumb way to build any type of ship, particularly something as big and complicated as a carrier".

The aircraft carrier Gerald R. Ford began to build in 2009. The Navy blames the delays and budget overruns on the ship's state-of-the-art systems.

The Navy was granted a waiver as it waited for the USS Gerald Ford to be completed.

Sessions explained the site, known as AlphaBay , featured hundreds of vendors selling opiates such as fentanyl and heroin. The action permitted surveillance of criminal activities on the marketplace before it was shut down in July.
