'This Is Hindustan, Don't Make It Lynchistan': Congress In Parliament

"Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh have become centres of mob lynching".

The Congress is leading a bloc of more than 15 opposition parties have chose to unitedly take on the government in the current session of Parliament on various issues including mob attacks in the name of cow protection.

Pointing to the involvement of organizations such as the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) and the Bajrang Dal in such cases, Mallikarjun Kharge, leader of the Congress in the lower house, alleged that the BJP was encouraging such incidents. Heated exchange of words took place between the TMC leaders and Treasury benches over the certain remarks made by Sougata Roy. "This government is against minorities, Dalits and women", he said, maintaining that these sections had been the key victims of mob violence. "Does the Opposition want the Prime Minister to break the federal structure and the Centre to take over?" he asked.

Kharge said "Hindustan" should not be allowed to become "lynchistan", replying that violence in the name of religion and cow protection began only after BJP assumed power.

"He asked the government to give details of the actiontaken against the accused in these cases, claiming that theyhad become brazen because of lack of action. The Prime Minister condemns such incidents but what action has he taken", asked Kharge, adding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had yet to speak about the killings on his monthly radio address, Mann Ki Baat.

Listing out mob lynching incidents in Gujarat, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Kharge said, "Gujarat, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh - wherever the BJP is in power, these mob lynchings happen.It is a shame that this is happening in a democracy".

The Lok Sabha saw protests and disruptions all through last week as opposition members demanded a debate on the issue, leading even to suspension of six Congress MPs for five days.
