The former Expedia boss, who is set to take the helm at Uber next week, reportedly told Uber employees at a meeting in San Francisco on Wednesday that Uber needed to focus on "paying the bills" and regaining market share from its rival Lyft.
The ride-hailing company confirmed late August 29 in a note to employees that the former Expedia CEO had accepted the top job. He is a strong, visionary leader, has been a great mentor to many of us (me included), and I count him as a real friend.
He added that Uber need to stabilise itself.

Expedia Chairman Barry Diller said "there was no other candidate considered other than Mark", in an email to employees.
Despite Whitman announcing on Twitter in July that she was no longer in the running, Uber's board was still asking the HP Enterprise chief to reconsider as of last week. "I was not a contender for this job until the weekend - and I'm not even sure I was then".

It also faces a high-profile lawsuit from Google's self-driving vehicle arm, Waymo, over alleged theft and use of trade secrets.
Khosrowshahi's departure would come at a crucial time for Expedia, which spent much of 2016 integrating its acquisitions of rival Orbitz Worldwide Inc and vacation rental site HomeAway Inc, J.P. Morgan analyst Doug Anmuth said. "I would actually hope - and Dara and I were actually speaking about this - given our close relationship, who knows?"
