The Los Angeles Angels?acquired outfielder Justin Upton from the Detroit Tigers?on Thursday as the deadline for players to be available for the postseason wound down.

And with the Twins dealing with a hamate injury to outfielder Byron Buxton, who has helped propel them to second-half relevance and the wild card spot they have a tenuous hold on, now is the time for the Angels to upgrade.

While July 31 is the non-waiver trade deadline, teams can make deals through August 31 if a player either clears waivers or is claimed by the team acquiring him.

Brathwaite, Hope star as Windies register stunning series-levelling win
However, middle-order batsman Shai Hope emerged as a real star for his side as she smashed two consecutive centuries in the Test. But it was not until the stroke of tea that Windies lost their third wicket when Brathwaite edged Moeen Ali to Stokes at slip.

Part of Upton's contract with the Tigers included a no-trade list that did not have the Angels on it but he has not given them any guarantees regarding whether or not he will exercise his opt-out clause following the season.

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that the Astros have acquired Cameron Maybin from the Angels. He's young enough and potentially under control until 2022, so he *could* sit alongside Trout in the lineup for years to come.

Even though he is set to make $88.5 million over the next four seasons, Upton has said on multiple occasions that he had not yet decided on if he would opt-out of the contract to test free agency. If you were to stay with Anaheim, it would be costly for the Angels.

He will be making $28 million each of the next two seasons, after which he has a $22 million option for the 2020 season that vests if he finishes in the top 5 of Cy Young voting in 2019.
