Arsene Wenger admits Thomas Lemar turned down a deadline-day move to Arsenal despite Ligue 1 champions Monaco accepting a reported £90million bid for the France star.

The Gunners were adament that they would not sell Alexis Sanchez to Manchester City, without finding a suitable replacement first.

Lemar has been identified as the prime option to bolster the wide positions, but his involvement in the crunch World Cup qualifier against the Netherlands has seemingly ended the club's interest.

A source confirmed to ESPN FC on Thursday that Arsenal had made a club-record £90 million bid for Lemar not long before the transfer window shut at 11 p.m. BST. Will there be more twists?
