Video footage has shown how a record-breaking Atlantic storm sucked water from the Bahamas shoreline.

This is being marked as one of the most extraordinary weather phenomena's in history. Wayne Neely, a forecaster with the Bahamas' Department of Meteorology, warned that people should stay clear of the areas where water has receded because the ocean will come back at higher levels and with great ferocity.

"I am in disbelief right now.This is Long Island, Bahamas and the ocean water is missing!"

According to Angela Fritz, deputy weather editor at the Washington Post, Irma is so strong that it has the power to change the shape of the ocean. Footage of a dry Bahamas shoreline hit the internet shortly after Irma swept through the Caribbean Islands.

The wind on Long Island in the Bahamas is from the southeast to the northwest on Saturday.

An eerie video posted on Twitter by resident Kaydi_K shows a completely deserted Long Island beach missing several feet of water.
