Dani Ceballos was the hero for Real Madrid in his debut on Saturday, scoring twice in the narrow 2-1 win over Deportivo Alaves at Estadio Mendizorrotza.

Zinedine Zidane's side lost 1-0 to Real Betis on Wednesday to leave them adrift of runaway La Liga leaders Barcelona.

Antoine Griezmann and Yannick Carrasco both scored in the second half to give Atletico Madrid a 2-0 victory over Sevilla, leapfrogging the visitors into second place in the Spanish league on Saturday. His powerful header from a cross by Munir El Haddadi was the Basque Country club's first goal of the season.

The former Betis midfielder's habit of making a late run into the box proved pivotal, as he displayed the calm usually associated with a striker for both of his goals, striking the ball with a calm that looked nearly Toni Kroos-esque in execution.

Heat's Goran Dragic named EuroBasket2017 MVP as Slovenia wins title
He had been visibly tiring, missing all three shots and the one free throw he took in the final quarter. But Slovenia , which had upset pre-tournament favorite Spain 92-72 in the semifinals, refused to fold.

Sergio Ramos almost doubled the visitors' lead after Cristiano Ronaldo cleverly chipped a free kick into the box, but the unmarked defender had his header saved.

The home side weren't level for long as just three minutes later goalkeeper Pacheco dropped the ball at the feet of Ceballos on the edge of the area and he curled the ball home for his second of the game.

Ramos did have the ball in the back of the Alaves net moments later, but the centre-back's header was chalked off by the referee following a foul inside the home side's penalty box.

Real Madrid's number seven looked certain to be sending the away side 3-1 ahead in the 63rd minute after curling a attractive effort towards the far corner, but the post saved Alaves as the 32-year-old was denied once again.

Ronaldo's afternoon ended with Pacheco tipping his angled strike around the post, but Madrid nonetheless held on for the three points.

Aside from Ramos' efforts, Real's other clear chances fell to Cristiano Ronaldo.

The winners of two straight Champions Leagues and last year's league winners, Real Madrid is off to a poor start by its standards this season.
