The United States Withdraws From UNESCO - US Department of State

Under the Trump administration, the United States has quitted the Transpacific Partnership trade negotiations and withdrawn from the Paris agreement within the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova in a Thursday statement expressed "profound regret" at the country's decision to withdraw from UNESCO. The withdrawal was confirmed Thursday by US officials speaking on condition of anonymity because they weren't authorized to be publicly named discussing the decision.

Following news earlier today that the United States will pull out of the cultural organization UNESCO, the Metropolitan Museum of Art's president and CEO, Daniel H. Weiss, has issued a statement about the news.

The world has always been used to U.S. President Donald Trump taking a stance against multilateralism.

Trump wanted tenfold increase in nuclear weapons, says network
Trump's reported interest in massively increasing America's nuclear arsenal also drew widespread criticism, despite his denials. The July 20 meeting was described as a lengthy and sometimes tense review of worldwide USA forces and operations.

Netanyahu, in a statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office, called the American move a "brave and moral decision, because UNESCO has become the theater of the absurd and because instead of preserving history, it distorts it".

The Reagan administration pulled the US out of UNESCO in 1983 over what it saw as a politicized left-wing cultural and economic agenda promoted by the Soviet Union. The withdrawal has been proved to be well calculated as it was announced right ahead of the election result of the UNESCO chief, according to observers.

In December, after the Security Council passed Resolution 2334, Netanyahu ordered $6 million cut from Israel's payment to the UN.

After receiving US notification, UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova expressed "profound regret" in a nine-minute video announcement and called on the "American people" to keep promoting the cause of UNESCO.

Arvind Kejriwal's stolen Blue Wagon R recovered from Ghaziabad
Even after Kejriwal became the chief minister in December 2013, he refused to use an official auto and preferred his old WagonR. He had later begun to use a bigger auto , also donated by one of his well wishers, just before the 2015 assembly elections.

Hours later, Israel said that it would also be leaving the United Nations agency.

But the fundamental strain is over UNESCO's approach to Israel. In 2016, a UNESCO resolution condemned Israeli's policies at religious sites in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, according to The Washington Post.

Although Washington supports a future independent Palestinian state, it says this should emerge out of peace talks and it considers it unhelpful for global organisations to admit Palestine until negotiations are complete. Basically, the U.S. wants to withdraw from UNESCO to support Israel, and also to cut costs they incurred by supporting Israel six years ago. She added that the Statue of Liberty is among the many World Heritage sites protected by the organization.

The agency has become part and parcel of the Palestinian campaign to erase Jewish connections to the historic land of Israel. The US will become what the United Nations calls a "non-member observer state" in UNESCO: allowed to send representatives to UNESCO meetings but not vote in them. He says, "Organizations like UNESCO are always struggling to get members to pay their dues on time in any case".

Serena Williams to make comeback at Australian Open
The 2018 Australian Open has been officially launched with the world's top tennis players committed to playing in the tournament. Serena holds the Open Era record for Grand Slams, 23, while Australia's Margaret Court holds the all-time record with 24.

The decision of the United States to leave UNESCO due to their pro-Israel commitment is expected to drastically hurt the financial strength of the world organization.
